arranging a funeral

Introduction

In today’s economic climate, many of us have enough to worry about without our financial burdens being a concern after we have died. It can be a worry to some folk, just who will be paying their funeral account; that is why we, at Dempsey and Forrest have devised a pre-arrangement scheme to suit all wishes and budgets.

Why Pre Paid?

Arranging your funeral before the time necessitates it, allows you to note your wishes and concerns, allowing your family to be aware of what your wishes are well before time. You can even pre arrange and pre pay your monumental masonry (eg. Headstone).

Pre-paying some or all of the funeral account helps eliminate the financial burden your family may feel at the time of death. It will also be of help to your family to know that your wishes are known by us, here at Dempsey and Forrest, and those wishes will be carried out professionally, and with dignity.

How it Works

Your pre-payment fund remains in your name in a Trust Account with the National Bank.

The account can only be drawn on when we produce a copy of the Death Certificate.

This means that neither party may withdraw any of that deposit until after the death.

If for any reason, you have moved out of town and required the services of another Funeral Company, the money is simply transferred to them by us, after the Death Certificate has been obtained.

The Benefits:

  • The interest earned is compounding and remains yours.
  • These accounts are excluded from asset testing when assessment is being made for eligibility to long-term care for the elderly
  • Tax that may accumulate from that account (i.e., Residents Withholding Tax) is automatically paid for you.
  • You may pay up to $10,000 per person, or as little into the account as you wish.
  • Your funds are protected and 100% safe.
  • Unlike many other schemes, no fees are charged by Dempsey and Forrest Ltd.

Where to from here?

Some people like to Pre-Arrange as well as Pre-Pay their funeral, while others are content just in the knowledge that the financial side is taken care of.

If Pre-Arranging as well as Pre-Paying, the first thing you need to do is think about what you want your funeral service to involve. For example, where the service may be held, who will officiate at the service, what music you may like played etc.

You can then talk to us, to obtain detailed information about what options you have. From there we can advise and assist you in your decision making, either as individuals or as a family.

Opening a Pre Paid Account
