the service

The funeral director’s most important role is to make all the relevant arrangements prior to conducting the funeral on the day.

The minister or celebrant is responsible for the funeral ceremony itself. This involves working with the family members to:

  • Plan the format of the service
  • Decide with the family who the speakers will be
  • Select music, hymns, readings etc for the service
  • Discuss what they would like on the service sheet, photos, and or photo presentations

The minister or celebrant then reports back to the funeral director who will make the arrangements to ensure all requests have been met by the day of the service.
