Some of my earliest memories growing up in Ireland was having Joan and Humphrey visit. Joan was a very special, kind and eloquent lady. In 2004, my parents and I did our first trip to New Zealand- visiting Joan and the extended O'Leary's family was a dream come true for us. Rest in peace dear Joan ❤️

We were so very sorry to hear of the passing of Joan. What a remarkable lady she was. My parents thought the world of her and were so glad of the chance to reciprocate Joan and Humphrey’s visit to Ireland, with their trip to Whangaehu. Our sincere condolences to all of our O’Leary cousins.

Our heartfelt condolences to all the O’Leary family on the passing of Joan. We had the privilege of visiting Joan in her home in July this year during our stay in Whangaehu. We heard so many wonderful stories over the years about Joan’s remarkable hospitality when many of our family had the pleasure of visiting her. Leaba I measc na Naomh go raibh aici.

To all my O’Leary cousins. I was so sad to hear of Auntie Joan’s passing. She was so loving to all. I remember my Dad taking me up to the farm as a young girl. We stayed the night and when I awoke in the morning there was a big Cow looking in the window. Now for a city girl that was quite scary. Also as an adult on another visit the boys all woke me up at the crack of dawn to get me to watch them milk the cows. They laughed at me. As I was no good at the job. I couldn’t wait to get back in the house. They were all younger than me. The story has been told by auntie Joan many times about the Big city girl’s visit to the farm. I do miss New Zealand as I left for The States in 1967. I had a few visits back I also came back to live for 8 years. But returned twenty years ago and live in Kentucky. Lots of racing not far from the Kentucky Derby. A big deal once a year. Which all my O’Leary cousins I am sure know about. God Bless you Aunty Joan you will be forever in my prayers. Janice.

My thoughts and condolences to our extended family the Oleary's. Being our Grandads sister and Dads aunty leaves a feeling of sadness with us hearing of her passing. With that though we also feel enormously proud that our extended family hold Joan in very high regard as a person and relative. A full life lived with a huge heart and leaves a fantastic family legacy.

My heartfelt condolances to all within the O"Leary whānau. Thank you for allowing the funeral to be viewed from afar. It was a fitting memorial to a wonderful life. Dad particularly cherished his Aunty Joan. He loved few things more than hearing (and sharing) the latest from Whangaehu. Arohanui.
